Adventure #9 - Shakespear Regional Park

By Escape Plan Admin 26 May 2016 No comments

With autumn heading into winter, finding pockets of good weather for little adventures is important - so we headed out to Shakespear regional park for a day of easy hiking...

Adventure #8 - Wairere Falls

By Escape Plan Admin 22 April 2016 No comments

A few weeks ago we opted for an impromptu run at the Wairere Falls trail leading from just outside of Te Aroha to the top of the tallest waterfall in the North Island of New Zealand (153m).

Adventure #7 - The Coromandel Pinnacles walk

By Escape Plan team 14 March 2016 No comments

The Pinnacles walk in the Coromandel is getting near on a kiwi classic. We decided to put some of our favourite gear to the test and tackle the 6 hour return track last weekend - it's a deceptively short 3.5km from the carpark at the end of Kauaeranga Valley road, but the kicker was the ascent to 759m above sea level. At the end of the day though, the stunning views across the Coromandel more than offset the dull ache in our calf muscles, plus the cold beer at the bottom.

The Escape Plan tent buying guide

By Escape Plan Admin 1 February 2016 No comments

As your old man would joke, camping is an ‘intense’ activity. Here at Escape Plan we love a good dad-joke, but camping shouldn’t actually be too intense. Choose the right gear carefully and lots of drama can be avoided – unless of course you decided to take your ex and your current partner along on the same trip – then you’re on your own. Choosing the right tent is one of the fundamentals of a successful trip – so we’ve put together a handy guide to picking the right tent for discovering the great outdoors in New Zealand.

Adventure #6 - Escape to Kapiti Island

By Escape Plan team 23 January 2016 No comments

Kapiti Island is one of the jewels in the crown of New Zealand's conservation efforts. Having been made pest free since 1996 it's thriving with native bush and teaming with birdlife. Amazingly, it's only about an hour's drive from downtown Wellington. Visitors to Kapiti Island are strictly controlled, but we were lucky to get away for the day to soak in one of New Zealand's most amazing places.

Adventure #5 - The Hillary Trail

By Escape Plan team 22 December 2015 No comments

When we started up Escape Plan, we didn't want it to be a boring company that sells stuff we don't believe in - so we make sure we get out, test and review what we sell at every opportunity. A couple of Fridays back we knocked off early, grabbed some gear from Poler, The North Face and a few other suppliers, and headed out to the Hillary Trail for one of our regular 'board meetings'
